Currently Coveting

I love big tortoise shell sunglasses. The bigger the better. When I saw these from D'Blanc, I was immediately smitten.

Now to find them on sale...

Bombas

A few weeks ago blogger Joanna Goddard, of A Cup of Jo, wrote a sponsored post on a sock company called Bombas (post here).

I was in need of some new workout socks, so I decided to take advantage of the 20% off code and place an order. I decided on the Women's Originals Ankle Sock. I have a problem with low profile socks slipping down while hiking/walking so lately I've gone to a higher sock, and it quickly has become my preference.

I like these socks equally as much as my Smart Wool, which I have blogged about before (post here). And what I really like about Bombas is that for every pair of socks I purchase, they give a pair of socks to someone in need.

Try them! You won't Bee Sorry! :)

ASOS for the Win, Yet Again

I saw this dress on liketoknowit last week and was excited, but not surprised, to see it was ASOS and only $73! ASOS has the best dresses!

When searching on the ASOS website for a shift dress, these other ones also popped up.

What a Wedding

Italian Fashion Editor Giovanna Battaglia was married over the weekend on the island of Carpri in what can only be described as a big fat and lavish Italian wedding!

She wore Alexander McQueen down the Aisle.

Giambattista Valli dress and lacy Manolo Blahnik thigh-high boots for the after-party

And a Azzedine Alaia dress and Aquazzura shoes at her rehearsal dinner...

The whole thing just seems a bit ridiculous to me.

Reader Challenge

A friend and reader has a big trip to Las Vegas planned and she is in need of dresses for her weekend of events...including a black tie dinner and a Maroon 5 concert.

She's considering using Rent the Runway, which is always a safe bet. I told her I would look at ASOS and suggest some dresses, since it seems to be my "go-to" for event dresses.

I didn't find as many black tie dresses as I had hoped, but I did find a few dresses that she could wear at some point over her weekend!

I LOVE the back of this dress!

The lace on this dress is gorgeous!

It also comes in black

And this dress is just sweet and fun and flirty!

Products We Love

I've been using the Trader Joe's shaving cream for a while now (remember when I blogged about it?) Well, I've found a new shaving cream that is taking it's place, Whish

This thick whip provides a close, moisturizing shave with no drying foam, and my main reason for making the switch, it's all natural!

It's available in pomegranate, almond, lemongrass, lavender, blueberry, coconut and limited edition seasonal flavors.

I've been using the pomegranate which I ordered on Amazon. I think I will try lavender next time!

C&C around the house

This summer we are embarking on yet another house project. This time it will be the exterior of our house. Our roof is nearing the end of its life, so we thought we would use the opportunity to not only give our house a structural upgrade but a visual upgrade by installing a metal roof.

Here are some of the photos that served as our inspiration. We will also be updating our chimney and chimney cap, like in the first photo.
Chimney Corners
Tellico Cabin

With the new roof comes the desire to change the color of the house. After way too much back and forth over the color we decided to call in an expert, enter Gretchen Schauffler of Devine Color. Gretchen has an incredible gift for color. I swear there must be something magic in her eyes. She came to the house for a consultation and was able to pull out what color would be best for the roof, trim and house based on our landscaping, the house size and shape, the color of our windows and our interior.

After the initial consultation, Gretchen sent us an image of the house which really helps to visualize the end result. Gretchen used the bark on our huge tree as inspiration for the color palette. She gave us two trim options, and we decided on the bottom of the two (Iron Ore from Benjamin Moore with the house being Shoji White).

You will notice the two wood samples to the left of the colors and that the garage has a wood overlay. We are also hoping to replace our garage door, entry siding and brick and one other exterior wall in natural wood. We found this really cool company in Austin Texas called Delta Millworks that has some amazing options, these being two that we are looking into.

If you live in Portland and need help with color in your home, I would highly recommend Gretchen. As I said, she truly has a gift.

Stay tuned later this summer for the big reveal!

What I Wore: The Maternity Finale

As I wrote two weeks ago, I'm officially done buying maternity clothes. With five weeks to go (and yes, I am counting every damn day), what you see is what you get. Which at the office means they basically see the same outfits every week. Of the four things I got in my last ASOS order, I kept just one. I figured this dress would work out since the style and fabric looked very similar to this dress I bought early on in my pregnancy. And, it did.

Paired with a white denim jacket (Old Navy, non-maternity), a pair of wedges, and two Angela Caputi bracelets, I didn't feel half bad. With summer in full swing here, I know I'll be getting at least another three or four wears out of this before baby McB arrives.

C&C in the Kitchen

Thanks to my friend Traci, rice cakes have been on repeat in my kitchen lately. Who knew you could do so much with them?

Breakfast.....peanut butter (or any type of nut or seed butter) + fresh fruit....any kind of fruit. You could add a little honey too if you wanted. This has been my go-to for the last few weeks. It's so tasty, especially with the fresh berries I picked over the weekend.

Lunch...pile on the avocado and add whatever toppings you want. Here I chose turkey, tomatoes and cucumbers.

And here, avocado, radish and micro greens.

I've also eaten with avocado and egg. Really you can't go wrong with any of these combinations!

Diaper Bag 2.0

The diaper bag dilemma has been resolved. I know, you were all really worried for me. Never fear, I've got 7 weeks to go, and once this tiny human arrives, I've got just the bag to carry all her gear. I didn't end up going in the direction I first thought.

A good friend, and a smart mom at that, asked if I'd considered a backpack. The honest answer...no. I'm not really a backpack girl, unless it's outdoor gear. I may have even scoffed a time or two when they recently made a resurgence. But it got me thinking...I'll be flying to Idaho in September by myself with a 7-week old and I'm going to need to be hands free. That backpack idea was sounding better and better.

There's no way Dr. B is going to carry a girly looking bag...but a cool backpack, that's a possibility. So here's what I ended up with.

The Patagonia Refugio is going to be our diaper bag. If I want a more formal tote or purse, I'll carry one of the MANY I already have. This will leave our hands free to tend to more important things and Dr. B is willing to wear it. If it fails as a diaper bag, it will undoubtedly come in handy for day hikes. A win-win-win in my mind.

Dress Me Up

One can never have too many stripes, and this Drea Dress from JMcLaughlin is pretty stripe-tasctic!

Have you ever had the problem where you tweezers no longer tweeze as they are suppose to? Well, apparently they loose their sharpness, just like knives, and that results in sub-par performance.

Fear not, The BrowGal has the solution for dull tweezers.

Blanket Bonkers

I am BONKERS for these blankets. While Spearmint Love is mostly for the little people, these would be a great addition to any room. Here are a few I'm eyeing for baby McB's room...

The watermelon might be my favorite. And while I'm all set with swaddles, they have the most beautiful muslin swaddle blankets...among other things. Browse with caution, the stuff is CUTE!

99 Bottles of...

Y'all, this baby gear thing is daunting.  At some point when I actually know what works for me and the tiny human I'll share all my favorite things...but until then, I'm navigating my way through...

If you are pregnant or have a friend that is, BUY THIS BOOK. It's essentially a consumer guide to baby gear and it was a huge help in putting together my registry and figuring out what I do and don't need. There's still one area where I'm unsure, but there's an answer for that too.

I never knew there were so many baby bottle options. And who knows what feeding is going to look like for me. Thankfully, First Foods gets that and saved me from buying bottles that the baby may or may not like.

With five different bottles (all of which I received recommendations for from different friends) and 16 nipple options, there's bound to be one that meets the baby's needs. And once I know which one is the winner, I'll order more. Done and done.

What I Wore

We just returned from a trip to Mexico where I had the opportunity to wear this Greylin geometric maxi dress that I got on super sale from Lyon + Post for $54!

You may recognize the print from a previous post on my Lyon + Post purchases as I also got this tank (read the post here).

If you haven't shopped Lyon + Post you must try it. I have gotten some amazing things, and often times on sale at amazing prices. Here's a link if you want to get $30 of your first purchase! What I love about Lyon + Post is that there is NO shipping and I am not billed until after I send the package back, so I only get billed for what I keep, unlike many of the other e-commerce sites like Stitch Fix, etc.

The dress is no longer available on Lyon + Post, but I did find it on Amazon for anyone who wants it...unfortunately it's not on super sale.

Art Fare

I recently had the honor of participating in a blog series on Art Fare. Jolie Goodson, the founder of Art Fare, is a super talented photographer and art lover.

In her words...
"Art Fare was created for all of us who want our homes to be amazing. We want to create beautiful homes that we love to be in and are proud of! When you visit Art Fare, I hope you leave feeling inspired. Like you just learned a new trick or thought of something you want to try in your own home."

Check out her dining room! Talk about cool! (You can find a tour of her home on Art Fare)

About a month ago, Jolie interviewed me in our home where I took her on a bit of a "tour" of our art and decor. My house is by no means "decorated", and I'm often quite critical of of it.

But my time with Jolie made me feel really good about our art and our decor because they are 100% a reflection of our lives and our interests. Everything has a story and has meaning, and at the end of the day, that is all that matters.

You can read Part 1 of the series here! And you can follow Art Fare on facebook.
