Trunk Club Take Two

Right before Christmas vacation I took two girl friends to the D.C. Trunk Club clubhouse for some cocktails and shopping. It was fun to introduce them to this incredibly simple and satisfying way of shopping...and, of course, I picked up a few things for myself too.

First, this DVF t-shirt dress is a great piece to throw on when you want an effortless, polished look. While it's technically a "dress," I'll be wearing it as a tunic.

In fact, I wore it on Christmas eve with some vintage art deco earrings. Just the right amount of pop.

I also picked up the most perfect pair of Vince leggings...that don't look like you're wearing workout gear. They were not cheap, but were worth the investment. I've already worn them a ton and the quality of the fabric is noticeably good.

Again, the tall factor plays in and they don't "slouch" on me as much as they do on this model. But the effect is still there. I wore them on Christmas Eve with my favorite Zara vest (currently on sale!).

Clearly the mini fashionista is skeptical about taking our own outfit picture.

If you haven't tried Trunk Club, you're definitely missing out!

Splurge vs. Save: Luggage Love

Anyone love the movie The Wedding Date? I thought so. Durmot Mulroney is the bees knees in my book. Dr. B might be left to the wind if fate ever put us together in the same place. If you've seen the movie, you'll likely remember the perfectly sophisticated robin's egg blue luggage that Debra Messing's character had for her trip across the pond. I recently came across an equally classic and travel-tempting brand, Globe-Trotter. Established in 1987 in Germany, but relocated to the UK in 1932, Globe-Trotter manufactures truly timeless travel accessories. I love the throwback aesthetic. I would gladly take any of these along on any of my travels.

Despite their true beauty, I'm not a character in The Wedding Date nor do I have over 1,000 pounds to spend on a carry-on. And we here at C & C don't like to leave a girl without strong alternative to a good splurge. Enter Diane von Furstenberg. Of course the queen of fashion can cure our out-of-reach suitcase blues. The DVF Hardside Spinner Luggage is absolutely adorable at a fraction of the price - and it too comes in a range of colors.

Bonus with this set, it actually leaves you some money to spend on globe trotting! Happy travels!

Consign Design

I spent two weeks in Sun Valley over the holidays, and as all of you know, a trip to Sun Valley is not complete without a visit to Consign Design. As usual, it was a designer gold mine.

There were two INCREDIBLE Victoria Beckham dresses, and my friend SB took one home with her. Doesn't she look incredible in that dress? Hello barre3 booty! And, she only paid $85 for it (the dress that is. The booty...well, that takes more time, money and hard work)!

There were so many other things I wanted to take home with me.
1) bronze chain link necklace ($85) 2) Tortoise patent Christian Louboutin heels ($145)...I wish I could have squeezed my 38.5 size feet into these 36.5 shoes. 3) Dolce Vita animal print booties
4) DVF printed blouse

I passed up a pair of fabulous Kate Spade black suede platform pumps and some cute studded Steve Madden smoking slippers as well.

But worry not, I didn't leave empty handed....I came home with this amazing jacket. If you can't quite see the label, its a D&G (Dolce and Gabbana) Lambskin black leather jacket, and it's FABULOUS. It's the softest most amazing leather.

What is even more incredible was the $195 price tag. The Mini Fashionista bought it for me as a Christmas gift (i.e. she signed the credit card receipt). Wasn't that generous of her? I can't wait to wear it, so stay tuned for a "What I Wore" post soon.

Not Your Average Homecoming Dress

A friend recently wrote for some advice on a dress to wear when her husband returns from serving overseas. Talk about a challenge! I can't imagine the pressure of finding the perfect thing to wear after being away from your +1 for so long. His homecoming will be in April sometime (which means the weather could be amazing, or not-so-awesome), in the afternoon, and she said she ideally wants something patriotic. While Spring lines are slowly making their way into the stores, here are some possible options.

These two from Lilly Pulitzer are cute and conservative. Of the two the second is my favorite with a tasteful, deep v-neck (I mean seriously, they've been apart for a long time - a little skin never hurt anyone).

Kate Spade delivers some cute red, white, and blues, all of which could easily be worn again and will definitely make her stand out in a crowd.

Kate Spade New York Britta Dress

And last, but not least, my "old reliables." A DVF wrap dress hugs the body in all the right places and is a timeless classic. She can wear this dress for the rest of her life and every time she puts it on think back to that very special day.

DVF New Jeanne Two Silk Jersey Wrap Dress

To add a little patriotism to the plain navy, a red patent pump could be fun!

DVF New Julian Two Matte Jersey Wrap Dress
M, I hope these give you some ideas. I'm always willing to go back to the interwebs for more searching - I love a good fashion challenge. I'm so happy that your man is coming home to you!

C&C on the Move

Last week C&C hit the road to NYC! The reason for our trip was that Katie was named "Top 40 Under 40" by PR Week magazine. She is too modest to say it, but since she's my sister, I can...it was a BFD!

Let's start at the end of our trip with the whole reason for our visit, the PR Week dinner. Katie was recognized along with 39 other PR industry superstars! We were joined at the dinner by our parents, 3 of Katie's colleagues, and 3 of her BFFs.

I am a pretty proud sister!

The rest of the visit was filled with three of our favorite things: walking, eating and shopping! We walked across the Brooklyn Bridge on Sunday to meet with with a friend and her family. We experienced an incredible culinary experience in Dumbo called Smorgasburg that is not to miss! She also pointed out the building where Olivia Palermo and Anne Hathaway live. We didn't see either of them. I did, however, pass Carson Kressley walking down 5th Avenue in Midtown. I wish he had stopped to give me a makeover!

Some of our stops during our short visit included DVF and The Standard Grill in the Meatpacking district, The High Line Park, and Eataly.

All of our restaurant suggestions came from friends who have lived or live in the city! Thanks MK, KH and AL for helping to make our dining experiences nothing short of amazing!

Here is a list of the places we ate in case you have an upcoming trip! All of these are incredible!

City Bakery- The best whole wheat croissant you have ever tasted, among other fabulous pastries and cookies
L'Apicio- Delicious modern Italian food
Public- Incredible food, drink and atmosphere
Locanda Verde- Hip Italian food in Tribecca. And a side note...the male staff is exceptionally good looking.
The Standard Grill- Fun spot for lunch or brunch or dinner in the Meatpacking district.
Eataly- Mario Batali's Italian Marketplace. This place is NOT TO MISS!

What I Wore

It's no secret that I'm a big fan of Viviana Volpicella. I have followed her for years and have shared many of her fabulous outfits with you here on C&C.

I am not sure what year this photo was taken, but it's old, and I have loved this top for years. The sleeves are so cool. The look is polished yet effortless.

I have a similar top from DVF, so I thought why not channel my inner VV and style an outfit with her as my inspiration. I happened to be at barre3, so it was the perfect place to get a quick shot!

DVF top from Consign Design, Merona Shorts from Target (last week's splurge vs. save), Wedge shoes (blogged about them here) and Angela Caputi Bracelet

DVF for Gap Kids

As I am sure many of you know, today Gap Kids launched a DVF "capsule" collection. I was really excited to get online early and make a purchase, but honestly...I am a bit underwhelmed. I realize I may take some heat for this...but no point in fibbing.

Don't get me wrong, it's cute, but $30 for shorts?

$40 for a bathing suit?

And $50 for a dress? I would pay $50 for a dress for the Mini Fashionista, but only if I really loved it!

Here are a few of the pieces from the girls collection, which I actually like a bit more, but DVF is known best for prints, and these are solids.

Any thoughts?

Shoe of the Month Club

Did you know that J Crew offers a Shoe of the Month Club?

Thanks to Chassity at Look Linger Love for introducing me to this amazing "secret society"! I have dropped many a hint to my +1 about this as a gift idea. Seriously....this would be the best club I've ever joined.

In honor of J Crew's Shoe of the Month Club, I thought I would share my picks if I was currently in a shoe of the month club (not specific to any store). I decided to be realistic and choose shoes I could actually buy and wear, but maybe next week I will post my "dream" shoe of the month club. It would be filled with Louboutin, Choo, Atwood, Chanel and Blahnik!
