What I Wore: Pretty Pretty Poncho

On instagram the other day, I saw this incredible Heidi Merrick wool and leather poncho. It reminded me of my love for outwear - specifically ponchos/capes - whatever you prefer to call them (poncho worked for my alliterative title). 

It got me thinking that it's about time for me to break out the Pendleton cape that Dr. B got me for Christmas two years ago. It's the perfect piece for the transitional weather of fall. Paired with black pants, a black turtleneck, and red snakeskin pointy-toe flats and it was ready for prime time (okay, really just a day at the office - but prime time sounds better)(excuse the deer in headlights look).

Food, Furniture, and Fall

Fall is definitely my favorite time of year in D.C. The weather has been amazing. It's a great time to be outside, enjoy time with friends, and eat all the fall flavors (check out Tom Sietsema's Fall Dining Guide).

I'm taking a departure from fashion today to share some progress on our new house. My clothes shopping has definitely taken a back seat as we focus on decorating. We've been waiting on the arrival of our bar cart  and it finally came this weekend! I'm still working on styling it (check out Courcy Inspired Design for ideas on bar carts), but I do love this new addition to our dining room. 

Our dining room table and chairs also arrived recently. We found the table at a sample sale at the D.C. Design Center and ended up getting our chairs on Overstock, since we weren't 100% sure what we wanted and didn't want to spend a fortune.

This weekend Dr. B's parents came down from New York and we entertained for the first time. We still need drapes, built-ins, and are deciding on whether or not to get a rug...but we're getting there. 

For dessert, I made this delicious and super-easy-to-make apple cake from the apples we picked in New York. Thanks to The Discountess of D.C. for the recipe (if you haven't already, check out her blog!)

It's Beginning to Feel a Lot Like Fall

I love Fall. The clothes (lots of layering), the food (candy corn, anything pumpkin flavored), and the weather! In our house, Fall also means football...and 8 drives up to New York for Jets' home games. You read that correctly - 8! Thankfully, despite the long trip each weekend, we always end up having a great time with Dr. B's family and exploring my +1's home state.

On Saturday we went to a farm to do some apple picking! I wore a little bit of Summer and Fall - that's what's great about the season. Remember this Old Navy shirt that Regan wrote about, well it was too cute for me to pass up - we do live on opposite sides of the country. And, for our birthday, she gave me a pair of gold Sperry's, which were perfect for walking around the orchard. See what she paired them with earlier this year on the blog.

And on Sunday, it was off to the Meadowlands to face the 49ers. While we did get CRUSHED (it was disgraceful), I met up with some old friends who live in California that were coincidentally at the game, and saw what clearly not to wear to a game (at least it wasn't a total loss). Wow, there are no words for this special outfit. Later this season I'll post on how I take fashion to football games.

Every Fall I feel the need to get a new pair of boots. Cole Haan makes fashionable boots that are amazingly comfortable (thanks to the Nike Air). Since I no longer have a discount (boo hoo) I probably won't be splurging this year, but if I did...this Air Georgina tall boot would be at the top of my list.

Back To School
