What I Wore: Back to Basics

I bought two great staples for my wardrobe recently that are just too good not to be shared. Everyone should have a crisp, white button down in their closet. My go-to is Brooks Brothers because as much as I appreciate a good iron (and I say that sincerely), there's nothing quite like pulling an oxford shirt out of the dryer read to wear! I've got some of their regular dress shirts, but was looking for something a little longer. Their new cotton tunic, was just the ticket.

It has proven itself to be a great layering piece for work and weekends - as you'll see below. The second purchase were two pairs of J. Crew Pixie Pants (navy and black). These are the adult-appropriate version of the legging. The fabric is substantial enough to wear to work, is constructed of a great "holds you in" fabric, and look good on pretty much everyone. I went up a size because I wanted to make sure they weren't too tight for a professional setting. I've already gotten a ton of wear out of them.

Do you you have these must-haves in your closet?

What I Wore: Transitioning to Spring

Remember this outfit from January? Well I've been wearing this Zara long wool vest on repeat ever since I got it. But I hadn't ventured away from the black turtleneck.

Last week, I wanted to find a way to transition this to warmer weather. I also wanted to incorporate a necklace that my mom brought back for me from a recent trip to Africa.

Taking some inspiration from an earlier post on the versatility and classic look of a white button down, here's what I ended up with.

And over the weekend I decided to put the outfit on repeat with a more casual twist - switching out my black pants for Paige jeans, the Stuart Weitzman suede booties for Sam Edelman flats, and adding my favorite Danielle Nicole Diana Clutch

It was the perfect Sunday outfit for a Danielle Nicole event at Cusp. There's nothing better than handbags and girl friends on a rainy day!

Sometimes finding new ways to wear things in your closet just takes a little creativity...and trial and error. Spring is the perfect time to experiment with new combinations, layers, and integrating warm- and cold-weather pieces into your outfits.

What I Wore: Risky Business

As Tom cruise proved, there's nothing like a classic white shirt.

But it's not just for the boys, and no one does it better than Carolina Herrera. The queen of the button down.

Her instagram inspired me to pull a Brooks Brothers non-iron white button down out of my closet and channel Carolina. Paired with an old skirt from H & M, black tights, a belt, and black Stuart Weiztman suede booties, it was a nice departure from my everyday looks.
