Nursery Decor Deets

Thank you for all your wonderful comments about yesterday's nursery reveal. She is one lucky little girl already - especially to be living in the nicest room in the house (apparently this is just the beginning of that dynamic I'm told). In yesterday's Container Stories reveal you got the low down on the room's incredible organizational details. The closet really is a work of art.

So I thought today I'd follow up with the "deets," as we used to say in college, on all of the décor.

The Makings of a Nursery



Sometime this week I'll be revealing baby McB's nursery. And if I do say so myself, thanks to Kate Collins Interiors it turned out pretty amazing. It's EXACTLY what I wanted and more. So while you wait, I thought I'd share just how the final product came to be.

When I shared with Kate what I wanted, I had three things in mind. First, I wanted blue and white gingham sheets. Just because she's a girl doesn't mean baby McB can't have some blue in her life. I have visions of an upholstered twin bed like this in her future.

 

With that gingham I knew I wanted a bold floral. Nothing says girly like a good floral pattern. I sent the photo below to Kate because the chair fabric definitely spoke to me. 

And last, but not least, I wanted to find a place to fit in this folded paper dress. I'd long thought the similar map versions would be really fun to do in a girl's room, but there wasn't a location that I had a personal connection to...and I have a THING for good penmanship. 

To start the process, Kate put together four inspiration concepts.

Oh Joy! for Target

Any readers of the blog Oh Joy!? Well, she recently launched a collaboration with Target, and it's SO CUTE! From baby clothes to nursery and home decor there are some ridiculously adorable things. So much so that when I ordered this lamp for the nursery, I also made my first purchase for baby McB.

The experts say I'll need lots of sleepers, so these seemed like a very practical purchase.

And while I didn't get one, how cute would one of these figurines be on the shelf of a nursery or little girl's room! 

Looking for a house warming or birthday gift for a girl friend? This small bites appetizer plate set is just the ticket (have I mentioned my obsession with cute dishware?).

With their vibrant colors, these pieces will definitely bring joy to your life! 

Target for the Nursery Win

While you're going to have to wait for the entire thing to come together before I share all the deets on the nursery, I thought I'd give you a little peak here and there. As you may have read previously, Kate of Kate Collins Interiors is helping me design just the perfect room for our little girl. And you know with her involvement it won't disappoint.

We're mixing a combination of what I'd call "investment" pieces with items that are more affordable. Here are two that won't break the bank and are so cute! Target for the win!

This Scallop Kids Accent Table is so girly with a sophisticated modern touch. Brass will be making its McBreen houeshold comeback in the baby's room.  I was thrilled when the table arrived. It's more substantial than I thought it would be and will be the perfect side table for the glider I've got coming. Bonus: it comes in pink and gray too.

And for all the story reading I have in my future, I know this Glass Ball Table Lamp will go to good use. It's also small enough to leave plenty of room for other things on the side table. It comes in four other colors (navy, white, pink and lilac) and would also be great for a powder room, entry table or dresser top. I love small little accent lamps and this little guy could brighten up any room.

C&C Around the House

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I've recently made some changes in the Mini Fashionista's room. She has been in a toddler bed since she was 16 months old, and while it was still a great bed for her to sleep in, it wasn't quite big enough for family story time or middle of the night wake ups. We have a pretty strict rule in our house that the Mini does NOT sleep in our bed. In fact, I can count the number of times she has on one hand. For that reason, there are times when I have had to stay in her bed with her in the middle of the night to get her to fall back asleep. Two months ago, after spending an hour in her bed in the middle of the night, I decided it was time for a big bed. If not for her, then for me!

You may remember what the Mini's room looked like, but if not, here is a photo from the post I did before she was born. Quite ironically, it was exactly three years ago (post here). Where does the time go?

We have actually made a number of changes to the room in the last three years. The rug has been replaced (it shed like a Golden Retriever), the crib became a toddler bed, the room has been filled with toys and books and the wall decals are gone. The Mini Fashionista found removing them to be a great form of entertainment during her naps. So much for hours of hard work to place them. 

After the removal of the wall decals, we had two maps framed by Christopher David (the same store that helped with my bedroom picture wall). We hope to share our love for travel with the Mini, so these maps serve both form and function. 

Here is the room before the arrival of the new bed! As a side note...if anyone is interested in buying the toddler bed/crib sheet set, I'm getting ready to sell it at a consignment sale for $35 (sheet, pillowcase, duvet cover and crib/bed skirt).  It's custom made Amy Butler fabric and in great shape. The bed is from Room & Board (The Piper Bed) and is red with a powder coated finish. The wood is a maple veneer. The sheets are from Garnet Hill (Dot to Dot Percale Bedding). If you are looking for nice, well priced sheets, I highly suggest checking out their site.
