What I Wore

We just returned from a trip to Mexico where I had the opportunity to wear this Greylin geometric maxi dress that I got on super sale from Lyon + Post for $54! 

You may recognize the print from a previous post on my Lyon + Post purchases as I also got this tank (read the post here). 

If you haven't shopped Lyon + Post you must try it. I have gotten some amazing things, and often times on sale at amazing prices. Here's a link if you want to get $30 of your first purchase! What I love about Lyon + Post is that there is NO shipping and I am not billed until after I send the package back, so I only get billed for what I keep, unlike many of the other e-commerce sites like Stitch Fix, etc.

The dress is no longer available on Lyon + Post, but I did find it on Amazon for anyone who wants it...unfortunately it's not on super sale. 

What I Wore: Fashion Fate

As I mentioned earlier this week, I've picked up a few new pieces for the wardrobe lately. I'm not normally an Ann Taylor shopper, but Loft was having a 50% off sale recently and a few things caught my eye. Including this maxi dress. I've got a wedding at the end of August outside of Seattle and this will be perfect for the weekend festivities. 

Major bonus, I already have shoes that match it perfectly! Don't you love it when fashion fate works like that?! Me and this dress at 50% off were meant to be. 

What I Wore: ASOS Goes to Hawaii

Before we went to Hawaii, I was jonesing for some new warm weather attire. NO ONE had anything in store yet for resort or spring, so I turned to old reliable ASOS for  two-day shipping, free returns, and plenty of warm weather options. I'll give you the disclaimer here...everything I bought was black. I've been in a major neutral palette phase, leaving patterns and color feeling sad and unwanted in the closet. I was hesitant to keep all three items, but at such incredible prices and knowing that you can never go wrong with a little back dress (or several), those thoughts dashed quickly from my mind. 

We'll start with the dresses. This black maxi was on sale for $20.85! This was the night we left (at 10:30 p.m.) so I took the dress right from dinner to the airplane. It was super comfortable for the long flight home. This might just be the best $20 I've ever spent. Click the link to see how cute the back is, giving that little extra something. 

Black dress number two broke the bank at a whopping $34.11 and was great for a night out with friends. Coincidentally two of my best friends from college were on Maui at the same time as we were. Sometimes life throws you little perks like that. It doesn't matter how much time passes, we're always able to pick up right where we left off. And their husbands are equally fun. It makes me wish we all got together more often! 

Finally, I was pretty pumped when this jumpsuit fit perfectly. I've been on the lookout for a jumpsuit, but haven't found just the right one that fits well in all the right places. I love how this can be dressed up or down. I may try my hand with this little number for a different look with jacket and heels....stay tuned. 

And if you're wondering about my accessories. You can't go some place tropical without Angela Caputi bracelets. My shoes are the Stuart Weitzman "Alex" sandals and I found them last winter at Nordstrom Rack, but you can get them here. And the Danielle Nicole clutch (which I can't live without) will be available in March - don't worry, we'll post as soon as you can get it! 

What I Wore - A Lesson in Layering

Layering clothes isn't easy. I love seeing people turn dresses into shirts or skirts, wear three top layers, layer a shirt under a dress, or double up on necklaces. Recently I took a maxi dress that doesn't look very good on its own, added a chambray shirt, a belt, and a jacket, and it was ready for prime time.

Sometimes with layering, it takes a few tries. But don't be discouraged, when you get a look that's right, it's kind of amazing (it's the little things that bring me joy).

What I Wore

If you read about my recent trip to Richmond here or here, you might have noticed there were no outfit photos. If you blog you'll understand...everyday content requires saving some of the good stuff. We can't give it all away in just one post! 

If you were also reading at the end of June, you might remember my trip to San Diego and a visit to the awesome boutique Mimi & Red where I got some great finds, but, again, held out on you with one last dress. The things we do to our readers! We've got to keep you coming back somehow, right?

Well, here it is (it's likely you don't remember either post, but I appreciate you sticking with me)! 

This Lani maxi dress was perfect for a car trip and the hot day! I love the colors and how summery it feels. Add some Angela Caputi bracelets, my "bank bag" as Dr. B calls it, and my FAVORITE sandals, and I was set. 

I can't track this one down online, so here are a few maxis I'm currently loving that won't break the bank (mine was $46).

I'm a Sex and the City loyalist. I can still sit down and watch any of the episodes, no matter how many times I've seen them. I LOVED the first movie (shocking to make a TV show into a movie well), but the second left a lot to be desired. The best part about it was the fashion.

Remember these two Halston Heritage dresses that SJP wore? I loved them then and three years later they're still pretty amazing.

So, when I saw this knife-pleat maxi dress from Victoria's Secret...my mind went immediately back to the beaches of Morocco and the ever-stylish Carrie Bradshaw. If she can wear a pleated maxi, so can we, right? 

But wait, there's more. It's currently on sale for $98 and comes in six colors! And, fear not petite friends, two lengths! I'm torn between these two.

For the shorter version, while you can't buy it, you can rent a black version from Rent the Runway for $50, which I did for a friend's rehearsal dinner two years ago. 

Should I order the maxi? Any color favorites? 

Wedding Wear

First and foremost, HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!! 

Now let's get down to business. As the months to the wedding get closer, I'm focusing on the important details..the wardrobe! We've got a number of activities going on around the big day - a bridal luncheon, the rehearsal dinner, and a brunch on Sunday, so I've got lots of reasons to find new outfits. And then, of course, there is the honeymoon to shop for. A colleague sent me this BCBGeneration stripe maxi dress in galaxy multi stripe. 

After perusing the world wide web, I found its shorter, sassy cousin, the BCBGeneration back cutout dress. The back is definitely my favorite part.

Since I'm a sucker for stripes, and they're going to be incorporated into the wedding, I thought one of these would be great for our brunch on Sunday and for our honeymoon. Now the question is, which one? I've got both coming in the mail and I'll keep you posted on which one I pick.

*Since writing this post, both dresses arrived. The maxi went back to Nordstrom, and the short one found a home with my colleague. Neither was quite right for me. I did, however, find a great dress last night at Kate Spade that is perfect for our wedding weekend! Look for it later this week on the blog!

What I Wore Today

The other day Jamie from I Suwannee tweeteed about a maxi dress from Target, so I decided to check it out (P.S. it's now sold out) - I've been in the market for a new one. After some emails back and forth between my closest advisors, I bought it. It came the other day, and while I was a little skeptical about the horizontal stripes and how "hippy" it made me look, I decided if I added a cardigan, it broke it up enough to be a keeper. Oh, and I forget to mention, this dress is like wearing PAJAMAS!

Today, for a little shopping expedition to Georgetown, was its inaugural wear. I paired it with a Target short-sleeved cardi, 6 year-old Pazzo sandals (love wearing things in my closet that have been around for a while - glad they didn't go to Goodwill), my beloved Angela Caputi bracelets, and I stole my BF's watch, for that little extra something. I think it works. Other ideas for what to wear it with?

In other news, we're off to Turks and Caicos in 13 days (booked it last night), so stay tuned for some beach themed posts! I did some damage at H & M and Zara today in preparation for the trip!

P.S. I cut my hair a little over a week ago - 7 inches - so big change, and totally on a whim. But overall I think I like it. At least I know I can be Anna Wintour for Halloween.
