Currently Coveting
I'll admit that capes aren't the most practical outerwear when you live in a rainy climate, but that doesn't stop me from thinking this one is pretty fantastic.

What I Wore: Trunk Club
Over three years ago I blogged about Trunk Club as a great option for guys that don't like to shop. But it's not just guys that need a little help sometimes. Regan and I have both tried Stitch Fix (read about it here), but I really wasn't impressed with the clothes - or the stylists' ability to pick things that appealed to me.
Ladies, our dressing prayers have been answered. Trunk Club (which was acquired by Nordstrom last year) is now catering to women! We're lucky enough to have a "Clubhouse" in D.C. so it's goes beyond the online experience and you can meet with your personal stylist in person. I've had ZERO time lately and knew this could be a great way to get some much-needed jeans and pants. I had a conversation with my stylist Nikki before going in for my first appointment. We talked about what I needed, where I shop, designers I like, sizing, price point and all sorts of other things to get an idea of my personal style. She pulled a bunch of cute things for me, but I tried to stay focused on what I really needed. I came away with three pairs of pants (including these flares), a white turtleneck that is the perfect layering piece (I might need the other two colors) and the most amazing cape (clearly I lost my focus on what I "needed").
As you can see flare jeans are back - and I have to admit, I'm LOVING them. There's nothing better than a good flare to slim and elongate the leg - especially when you pair them with a pointy-toe pump.
I'm hosting a few friends for a happy hour the beginning of December at the Clubhouse where the four of us are going to try on the things that Nikki has pulled (she'll do the same phone call with each friend before). It's going to be such a fun time! I'll make sure to report back with any other purchases. I'm not going to totally give over my shopping to Trunk Club (I love finding things on my own too much), but it's definitely something I'll do on a quarterly basis. It's good to have someone else shop for you every once and a while. You can sign up here!

What I Wore: Bring It, Indian Summer
I'll spare you the preface that I've got an obsession with all things poncho, cape, long vest...I think we're beyond that point in our digital relationship. Last week we were having a bit of a crazy Indian Summer. And let's be real, at this point we're all tired of our summer clothes and have a serious hankering for layers, knits, and boots...so 80 degrees doesn't have the same allure as it might in the Spring.
But give me a wardrobe challenge and I'm equal to the task. White denim after Labor Day? Bring it. Knit hooded poncho for warm weather? Done.
You'll definitely be seeing this again (okay, a lot) this winter.

Blake Lively Style
When Blake Lively was pregnant she wore this incredible cape. Damn Gina.
I remember thinking I could definitely attempt to pull that off...but went upon my merry way knowing that it probably was a wee bit out of my price range. Pretty sure sister isn't a Maxxinista. Fast forward to last week when she appeared again on instagram in yet another incredible number with info about the designer. And my infatuation was reinvigorated leading me to the designer Lindsey Thornburg's website.
Lindsey made her first cloak from a vintage Pendleton blanket given to her by her grandfather in 2006. Fast forward nine years and no big deal, Blake Lively is wearing her clothes (that had to be a pinch-me moment). They are definitely a splurge, but in my humble opinion, a worthwhile one. One of these days I'll own one, believe you me. In the meantime, I'm lusting after these.

What I Wore: Caped Crusader
Remember when Regan blogged about a $50 Nordstrom gift card she had? Well, I had one too. And her post gave me a major hankering for the Topshop cape...so I did what any right-minded shopper would do, I ordered it! It was unavailable, and then they got more instock! It just arrived last week and was the perfect thing to wear for our flight to Sun Valley.

I'm cape obsessed this season. I can't get enough of long, well-draped coats, capes, and sweaters. Done right, they can be so sophisticated...and warm...and comfortable. Who knew those three things could go together. Since this is currently out of stock, here are a few similar options.

What I Wore: Pretty Pretty Poncho
On instagram the other day, I saw this incredible Heidi Merrick wool and leather poncho. It reminded me of my love for outwear - specifically ponchos/capes - whatever you prefer to call them (poncho worked for my alliterative title).
It got me thinking that it's about time for me to break out the Pendleton cape that Dr. B got me for Christmas two years ago. It's the perfect piece for the transitional weather of fall. Paired with black pants, a black turtleneck, and red snakeskin pointy-toe flats and it was ready for prime time (okay, really just a day at the office - but prime time sounds better)(excuse the deer in headlights look).
If you're looking to punch up your fall wardrobe with a poncho, here are some options - of varying prices.

Fjallra-what?
I love photos (you can follow C & C on instagram if you want to see just how much). They tell stories that words just can't. And I love keeping up with my friends through their images. It's almost like being there.
Earlier this year one of my fellow Idahoans sent me a picture of her and her +1 out in the elements wearing this in black. Cute, right (you know I love a good cape).

So of course I immediately wrote back to ask who it was by. Knowing that I didn't want to forget to check it out online, I took a photo of the text. Good thing, because who's going to remember how to spell or pronounce Fjallraven anyway?
Fjallraven, which means arctic fox in Swedish, started 50 years ago in Sweden making backpacks. Now they offer a range of items for men and women to brave the great outdoors. Here are a few other things that caught my eye.

Little Red Riding Hood
Happy Halloween. If I was dressing up, I might think about wearing this cape to be Little Red Riding Hood. As RZ might say, capes are EVERYTHING this season...
It's made by Fidelity Sportswear and is priced at $186. Cute, but a little spendy. You can purchase it at Steven Alan.

Cardigan Wednesday
So it's not really a cardigan, but it's still pretty fabulous. And, the big surprise is that it's from Pendleton Woolen Mills (a local Portland company).

Fantastic Fall
The Fall 2010 collection from Lauren Moffatt is full of fabulous color, texture, and patterns. I especially love the beautiful coats/capes.
