Red Carpet Rundown

I have to say that this year's Golden Globes Red Carpet was a bit blah-ck. While I appreciate that the actors/actresses wore black to make a statement about sexual harassment in Hollywood, it resulted in a pretty lack luster red carpet.

Don't get me wrong....I love a LBD, just not on everyone! One of the things I look forward to most about red carpets are the colors and textures, and unfortunately I didn't get any of that at this year's Globes.

That said, there were some beautiful gowns worn on last night's red carpet. Here are some of my favorites.

And my top three (in no particular order) go to....

Reese Witherspoon

Allison Brie

Nicole Kidman

Now please, please, please can we bring color back for the Academy Awards?

Golden Globes Red Carpet Recap

It's the official start of awards season, which means C & C is ready to be our most judgmental fashion police selves. There was a lot going on in terms of trends on last night's red carpet - vibrant coral reds, sequins and lace, to name a few. So let's get right to it...here are my best and worst dressed from last night's Golden Globes.

Let's start with the worst...I'm sorry, but just because you're in Alexander McQueen doesn't mean you can wear a dirty dish rag that was shredded by your washing machine..

Rooney Mara in Alexander McQueen
Amanda Peet in Alexander McQueen

Apparently Cate Blanchett and this other woman, who I had to google, took "evening wear" to heart. Cate, I expect so much more from you. And Catriona, I'm pretty sure my Barbie had that nightgown in the 80s.

And then Eva Longoria did this...I love a properly placed bow, but these aren't that...and then she decided to bedazzle her hips. Caray!

Kate Hudson has a rocking body...but this was all wrong. If you watched the red carpet you would have seen that the three pieces are actually connected in the back...but that didn't do anything for the dress' ability to stay on her tiny self. She was pulling it up throughout her interview and the neck piece reminded me of the top of a figure skating outfit. You could easily lose a guy in ten days wearing this.

Okay, enough with the criticism....on to my favorite looks of the night. You know we small-chested girls here at C & C love a good deep V....and this year's red carpet didn't disappoint.  This dress may be my most favorite of the entire night. I've never seen anything like it...and it has pockets!

Jaimie Alexander in Genny
Zendaya

Saoirse Ronan in Yves Saint Laurent

Jenna Dewan Tatum in Zuhair Murad

While this dress isn't particularly unique, you can never go wrong with Zac Posen. She looked absolutely stunning and I would wear this dress on a red carpet any day. Stunning.

Gina Rodriguez in Zac Posen

Let's end with Jennifer Lopez. I love her. I can't help it. And while I'm not a huge fan of this color (in fact it was the horrid color of our powder room before it was saved by wallpaper), she kind of killed it. A far cry from her usual sheer numbers, this was sexy in all the right ways without being revealing one bit...except a little leg. And if I had those legs I'd wear mini skirts EVERY. DAMN. DAY.

What were your hits and misses from the night?

Red Carpet Rundown

Truth be told, I don't actually watch the Golden Globes. I just watch the red carpet. Today I'm giving you a quick rundown of last night's red carpet and my favorites.

Diane Kruger in Emilia Wickstead is one of my favorites of the night. Her dress is simple, well fitted and elegant.

I love Julianne Moore in Givenchy Couture. Her hair leaves something to be desired, but the dress is gorgeous.

Leslie Mann is always simple and stunning. I love how she paired the dress with an emerald clutch and earrings.

Although last year's dress was even more fabulous!

Back to this year's carpet, I don't know who Taylor Schilling is, but I love this Salvatore Ferragamo gown.

And my Golden Globe Best Dressed goes to Sienna Miller in Miu Miu! The hair, the makeup, the dress, the shoes...just WOW!

Golden Globes Red Carpet Rundown

Veterans for the win at tonight's Golden Globes. Helen Mirren in Jenny Packham, Cate Blanchett in Armani, and Julianna Marguiles in Andrew Gn (my all-time favorite from the night) all prove that you can walk the carpet countless times and still look beautiful (don't miss the close up of Helen Mirren's earings). I'm all about classic glamour, and these ladies have it perfected.

But leave it to the young'ins (all born in the 90s) to keep things fresh. Emma Watson took a big gamble with this business in front, party in the back Dior ensemble, and I love it. I would have chosen different shoes, but she looks stunning. Hermione, you work your magic girl.

Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick's daughter Sosie was "Ms. Golden Globe," and looked appropriately statuesque.

Margot Robbie's Gucci dress isn't done justice in this photo - the gemstone detailing was just the right amount of sparkle and anyone who can pull off that kind of plunging neckline and thigh-high slit while still keeping it classy deserves some big-time recognition.

Taylor Swift and Julie Bowen in Carolina Herrera prove that once again if I had to pick one designer for the red carpet (for all those red carpets I've walked), it would be her. She knows how to dress a woman.

But it wasn't all pretty women. Why, Julia, why? I love you, but Brooks Brothers wants its shirt back.

Hayden Panettiere in Tom Ford is tragic. 1996 senior prom meets Sonic the Hedgehog hair.

Paula Patton reminds me of a toilet paper bride gone wrong (you know you've played that game). There are no "blurred lines," this is bad fashion in action. Fire. Your. Stylist.

And Heidi Klum (in Marchesa) - I've got two words for you. "You're out." Have you learned anything from Tim Gunn? A choker, really?

And it wouldn't be awards season without J Law. I've got mixed emotions about this Dior...for obvious reasons. That being said, anyone who can wear a band across their behind and still look good deserves a free pass.

And then there's this. Carry on.
