The Truth About Style
A few weeks ago one of my favorite fashionistas, Stacy London, released a new book. For those of you who are not familiar with Stacy, she, along with Clinton Kelley, hosts one of my favorite shows, What Not to Wear. They are like the Batman and Robin of fashion!

I'll be adding this to my reading list!

I Have Nothing to Wear
Last week I sent the following letter to What Not To Wear. I don't expect to hear anything back, but at least I tried.
Dear S & C,
I have no doubt that you receive thousands of letters with nominations to be on your show. However, my guess, and maybe I am wrong, is that you have received very few submissions like this….
I love fashion…clothes, shoes, accessories, you name it. I even have a blog titled Cardigans and Couture. Here’s the thing, I don’t need a makeover. I have a closet full of clothes and shoes, nice ones at that, and relatively speaking, I do a pretty good job of putting them together. I may not look as fabulous as Stacy, but I do okay. So, you ask, why is this woman who claims not to need a makeover writing What Not to Wear?
My dilemma is this…every morning I get up, I open the closet doors, stare at the sizeable amount of clothes and shoes in front of me and say to myself “I have nothing to wear.” As I start to pull item after item from my closet, my husband descends into the room and stands in awe, wondering if I am going blind or maybe even crazy. “How can you say you have nothing to wear,” he says, as he pulls a shirt out of the closet. “You just bought this.” Then a skirt, “and this,” he says. Perplexed, he escapes the room before the entire contents of the closet are emptied as I try on outfit after outfit to put together the day’s ensemble. Nine times out of ten, I end up wearing the same pieces over and over again.
“What does this have to do with What Not to Wear?” I know there are countless woman out there who have this same problem; my twin sister, my best friend….and I am sure many of your viewers. The struggle is not “what to wear” but how to wear it. We have a closet full of clothes but struggle to maximize the contents.
Given the state of the economy, women are being tasked with shopping in their own closets instead of in stores. They are being forced to make more thoughtful purchases with less discretionary income to spend on non-essential items. The bottom line is I need help, we need help. We need help maximizing the contents of our closets, filling in the holes, and maybe even getting rid of a few out-dated, or unflattering items. I don’t deny there are some of those, but for the most part I know what flatters my figure and what is fashionable. Sometimes I just don’t seem to execute an outfit quite how I would like. I need help, and I KNOW, you are the only ones who can help me.
So, what am I proposing? A special episode, or episodes of What Not to Wear, focusing on shopping in your own closet. I think your viewers would love it! I have utilized many of your helpful hints over the years, so I know others would benefit from learning your tricks of the trade on how to maximize the contents of your closet without fully re-stocking it.
So please Stacy and Clinton, help me and all the fashionistas out there get up every morning and help us say to ourselves, “I have so much to wear!”
