Over Labor Day Dr. B and I enjoyed playing tourists in our own town. Our good friends D & S introduced us to an amazing accessory and home decor store in Old Town Alexandria. For a French farm house, chic city loft, or rustic lake cabin, Coco Blanca has the lamps, tables, trays, and even clothes that you'd want. The neutral palette is right up my design alley and they have a nice range of price points. These photos don't do it justice. You need to go visit and see for yourself (or online if you don't live in the area).
Wanting to take home nearly everything in the store, I settled for two lamps for our mantle. We've been looking for something FOREVER and now our living room is close to finished (I'll share photos when it is).
From Old Town we hopped on the National Harbor Water Taxi across the Potomac.
The National Harbor is its own little world. The Gaylord Hotel, which sits statuesquely on the river front, is sort of like Disney arrived in Maryland in a good, big hotel kind of way. There's no lack of shops (including Coco Blanca's first store) and restaurants (we had lunch and margs at Rosa Mexicano) at the Harbor.
And did I mention the Peeps store? I know everyone may not understand my love for these colorful, sugary, marshmallow delights. Did you know they also manufacture Hot Tamales and Mike & Ikes?
Before we headed back across the Potomac, we made the requisite stop for a photo opp. Do we look touristy enough?
Originally installed at Hains Point in D.C., The Awakening is a 70-foot statue of a giant embedded in the earth struggling to free himself. Kind of random...but cool.
It was a great day in our own city. We even came up with a list of other in-town field trips we want to take.
